In 1933, Ernest Hemingway wrote the short story entitled The Clean, Well-lighted Place, which mainly illustrates the older waiter trying to empathize and be considerate for the old man who has everything but feels despair and the young waiter who disagrees with the old man and in a hurry to live his lives without even considering others. The paper maintains a confrontation between two waiters over a café where the older adult tries to stay.In that context, the paper argues that two kinds of two waiters attitudes are opposites each other for the older man, presenting the confrontation between meaning and being meaningless of what he deals with despair through the café.
